Installing Ram

I ordered new stuff for my gaming rig and everything arrived yesterday morning. I've been assembling it all day but I'm having trouble with the RAM. I put my DDR3 into my mobo (also DDR3) and pushed on side in to get the click to lock. So now the other end of the stick is in the air like it should be but when I try to push it in it takes a LOT of force. This can't be right it doesn't seem to want to budge. Whats the proper way to insert memory sticks?

There is a tab or two in the memory slot and corresponding notches in the card-edge of the memory module. These serve two purposes-- to make sure you are putting the right kind of memory into the motherboard, and to make sure you don't put the memory in backwards.

Make sure the tabs and slots match up and press the module flatly in. I may take a little pressure to get them in.

Please post the links to the motherboard and memory you bought so we can make sure they are compatible together. Hopefully motherboard isn't ddr2 and you bought ddr3. It's also possible that you need to turn the memory around, make sure the notch in the memory matches the notch in the memory slot.

Nevermind I got it in, just had to hold down the side that got in the air. Thanks for replies though.

its easier to put both ends in at the same time rather than one side, then the other.

But every article ive read or video ive seen shows one side then the other, thats how you get the retainers to click.

For articles, pictures are generally set up-- you have to pose the pieces so that the reader can see pertinent details. Pushing one side in and then the other is a good way to overstress your connectors and cause connection problems later down the road.
