Installing ram

i have a question about installing the ram. on my mother board i have 4 memory slots. 2 orange and 2 purple. i have two 256 DDR memory sticks in the orange slots and i was wondering if i need another two 256 or i can just put one 512 into one of the slots.

i believe DDR is fine to mix, well i always have anyway and it works fine... but i dnt different colour slots im not sure what they are sorry...

mine are purlple and green,
i think they are colored so the user can find the different channel.
green is on channel, purple is another channel. you dont really need to worry if you dont have dual channel memory "which you dont have"
