Installing Software with a Virus/Trojan

A friend gave me a program that contains a trojan. Can I install this, then remove it with my anti-virus program? If I run my anti-virus program first (before installation), it will erase the entire program.

How do you know it's already infected with a virus?

Assuming you made the post before you opened it of course. :)

When I clicked on "setup.exe", it started the installation process...my AV program alerted me to the infection. Actually, it's probably stupid to continue the installation at that point. However, theorically, if the installation is continued, afterwords, you should be able to "heal" the infection. That's what I'm trying to find out.

You could but or already infected and it could be stealing your banking details Etc... and you could heal it if your computer continues to boot properly.

No, you won't. Here the infected application is the setup file, not the program itself. Once you allow the setup file to be launched, the virus will start doing it's job.
So better get another installer, recommended is to buy the program, or take it from it's website (if freeware) or some trustfully websites (cnet, softpedia etc) where there is maybe around 90% chance that you won't download a virus.
