installing SSD drive on wifes computer today

Ok. it had a retail ver of XP Pro 64 bit. bought a 7 Pro ver 64 bit and upgrading to a new SSD drive. If i install the SSD am i going to have to reinstall the retail XP again or can i go ahead and install the upgrade ver windows 7 pro only on the SSD Just trying to avoid the first step with XP.

You should be fine just installing the upgrade for 7. Install it without a key, and once everything is setup, then put the key in and activate it.
