Installing the fan of an amd phenom x4 955

I just installed the CPU with no problem but I'm not sure about the fan, it feels like it needs too much force to attach the 2 metal fastener. Any recommendations ?

Also, regarding the thermal paste, the fan does have it preapplied, right ?
 
attach the opposite end you would intend to attach first, then latch the other end over, might take a little bit of force but wont hurt anything, then turn the cam, and it should be ok, seems like the AM3 heatsink retention is a little more taught than the am2/am2+
 
Thanks, I will try that. Does it make a difference if I rotate it by 180° ?

I think I mixed up what appears to be called the pre-applied thermal interface material and the thermal paste. I do need to put some thermal paste, right ?

The pre applied is alright seeing as how you are only using the stock HSF. If you plan on overclocking, use after market thermal paste and an after market cooler.

It takes force to put it on because there must be alot of pressure on the chip to make as much contact as possible. Swing the side without the push handle over one side, then push down a little to put the other side over too. Then push the lever down, which will take considerable force, but once it is locked down, it is good to go :)

If you have taken the heatsink off and put it back on though, take it off again, clean off the thermal paste from the CPU and the surface of the heatsink, and reaply some more, as what will happen if you reuse, or can happen, is air pockets form, which is bad, as heat can not conduct as well through the air, so you will get your chip being hotter than it should be
