Installing the i7 920

Ok, the CPU fan/heatsink that came in the box is called the "stock heatsink/fan". They give it to you as an option, you can either
A. Install the Stock Heatsink/Fan on the CPU Or
B. Use the heatsink and/or fan/heatsink that you bought and install that instead.

That second link that you posted, the "Scythe" fan, is a case fan. You cannot use that for your CPU, it's only for case-cooling purposes.

* Note that installing a heatsink and/or heatsink/fan on any CPU that did NOT come with the CPU will void any warranty on the CPU.

Does that answer you question?

The reason people buy aftermarket heatsink/fans is that they are much more efficient.

Leave you stock cooler in the box like I did and save it, just in case you ever
sell your rig and want to keep your nice cooler. :good:
