Im gonna install two different version of linux on my laptop and get rid of vista. just got some questions before i tackle this.
1. Do i need to do anything to prepare the laptop before removing vista? such as partition the drive first..or after removal.
2. At what point should i partition my harddrive (splitting it 50/30)? and is there a program to do this?
3. Im installing Ubuntu to be my main os, and slackware to be just an extra os. will doing this cause problems, also i assume that it asks u which os it should load at startup.

that should be it.
thanks

You don't have to do anything before putting one of the Ubuntu or Slackware discs in. Infact, you'll be able to do all the partitioning and preparing from the installation.

Sometimes before setting up a whole new set of OS's I'll completely wipe my hard drive with a program like Boot and Nuke. It just makes me feel better. :P

You can easily run both. They'll both install a nifty boot-time program called GRUB. This allows you to choose and operating system when the computer starts and it's pretty easy to configure if you have to.

The only suggestion I have is that you might want to install Slack first. In my experience, Ubuntu detects other OS's much better than most distros. I have very little experience with Slack so I wouldn't say this is a "must do".

awesome, thanks for the help. I like the sounds of Nuke :D
ill take into account installing Slackware first, so long as order doesnt matter with installing, since Ubuntu will be my main os.
Im new to the linux thing (as u see from my avatar lol)....and to installing two os'. it'll be interesting. my laptop will probably be outa service for at least a week while i do this :P
