So I want to install Ubuntu Fiesty on my laptop, (centrino, 1gb ram, 60gig hdd, x600 mobile), but my CD drive is broken. I tried putting the .iso onto my flash drive, and then booting from it, but it says operating system not found. I'm using Vista on my laptop right now, btw.

you can't just put an iso on a pen drive and expect it to boot, no men, if your cd-drive is broken, the only thing you can do is get an external cd rom device and boot ubuntu from it.

Wait....YES YOU CAN!!

Use Daemon Tools and copy that .iso to the virtual CD drive, then go from there :) I think that will work.

stoopid am i, i totally forgot he had the ISO file which he could simply mount..duh what was i thinking..lol
too many beers up in this head of mine

hmmm...no our ideas won't work and i'll tell you why ?
because if he mounts ubuntu ISO, ubuntu will then erase his hard drive, so problems will occur in the process as the OS with the drive mounter has been erased

Could he not make the USB seem to be a CD drive?
