I am trying to install vista beta 2 on my machine but if i try to boot from the cd it just boots from the hdd instead. I think it boots from hdd if nothing usable is in the cd drive. I really want to get this installed so i need some help.

i know its trying to boot from cd but when i get to the screen where it will normally say "press any key to boot from cd" it know just says "boot from cd:" and it just sits there for a second then boots from hdd.

no that option is not available anymore. pressing enter has no effect. does this maybe sound like the disk is not right for booting from? hey bobo whats wrong this is your disk?? am i just stupid?

Nothing's wrong with the disk, I tried it and it worked fine on my computer.

Open it in windows, and see what is on it. Is your drive working properly? If you had windows 64-bit, you could install it without booting from it....but you don't.

i just realized that this drive might not be able to read custom written DVDs. it is a very ancient DVD drive.

it didnt work it still wont boot from cd.
It isn't a CD....is that your problem?

iis the disk supposed to have only an iso file? it has a bunch of files.
No, when you burn an ISO file to a disk, it extracts itself into a bunch of files.

You could try burning those same files onto a new DVD, but I am quite positive that those are the right files, the same ones that worked on my computer.

It's 4.1GB

Just list the first level files and folders on that disk, and I'll see if they match what they should be.

boot docs efi sources support upgrade autorun bootmgr bootmgr.efi readme setup

When open the readme it says in there that in the docs folder there should be a setup.htm and relnotes.htm. All thats in the docs folder is unattend_sample.xml and unattend_sample_headless.xml.

That is everything.

They don't need to be there, and aren't there in my other copies. That is fine, and won't affect booting.

There is no problem with the disc. Can your computer boot off of other media?

it boots fine from my windows xp home disk. Im going to frys to return my zalman heatsink so I will ask some nerdy tech guy there because there are a couple really really smart guys working at the repair section.

do you need to do the whole floppy driver for RAID when installing vista because doing that in home isn't working and it's starting to piss me off. I was planning on waiting until the final release of vista but i really want these harddrives to be in RAID.
