hi guys i have a big problem ive just put together my new comp and im about to reinstall windows, ive reconfigured the bios so it boots up on cd, ive imserted the win xp pro disk then it starts to boot the cd then formats the hard drive using ntfs and after loads files.my problem is after that the computer restart back to dos and instead of following on from were it left it starts again eg reformat the drive and install files huh?????? i need help please is the bios the problem do i need to configure that

When your computer restarts after copying all of the files and it asks to press any key to install.. are you pressing any key?

Not to complicate the issue, but I am having similar problems with XP Home: XP Home install

In my situation, I did change the boot order in BIOS to load from floppy, CD drive, then hard drive. On mine, I have to press <delete> to load up the BIOS screen.

After the installation, does your computer automatically restart and you get the same error as before? Also, have you got to the point where you put your product key in?

when my computer restarts after copying the files. it just boots from cd without me telling it to!?!

It would seem you are one step ahead of me. When my computer restarts, (with the CD in), it boots from the hard drive and gives me an error

i want the hard drive to boot up first to continue with the installation but the cd without telling me boots up all the time and trys to reinstall windows again ????????????

i thought of something, because i havnt got an ide hard drive instead ive got a sata har drive has that got anything to do with it.

I do not believe the SATA has anything to do with it.

I can tell you that I am talking to someone at Microaoft regaurding my problem, which is identical to yours. When I complete the call, I will post the phone number from redial.

They asked for me to remove my cd and tell them EXACTLY what is on the disc, so you may want that to me ready. At this point, they gave me a case number and have me on hold being transferred to someone else.

I am under the impression that we are not the only people this has happened to. I will keep you updated.

thanks for that much appreciated and in the meantime if anyone else can help us much appreciated we need all the help we can get :)

I just got off the phone with Microsoft support, and I believe that I have some progress. First, the direct number for Microsoft support: 1-800-936-5700. The person I spoke to was Brad, but I am sure that anyone can help you out.

Here is what I did, but once again, it is not complete yet.

He had me delete ALL partitions on the hard drive. To do this, press D when you have the list of partitioned drives. On mine, I had C: and D:...why, I dont know lol By the way, it will tell you that all information will be lost. When I deleted the first partition, I noticed that the other partition said NTFS, whereas before, it said <unknown>. After you have deleted all the partitions, you will have one entry that says unpartioned space. You want to format on this one. When you do, it will change to partitioned space (RAW). Press <enter> to install Windows on this one. As of this message it is at 51%, and I still have another progess bar to go through, but perhaps it will lead you in the right direction.

SirJay, your problem has nothing to do with robina_80's problem.
Please open a new thread if you want someone to deal with your issue.

As for robina_80's problem. Once you have formatted the drive, created the partition and copied the files from the CD to the hard drive, your computer restarts. You then want to boot from the hard drive and NOT the CD.

its just occured to me ive got my optical drives in ide_0 instead of ide_1 maybe thats why because ide_0 is the primary boot isnt it

that hasnt helped everytime it wants to boot the cd even when i havnt set the cd to 1st boot i dont know about it but it needs an EXPERT i cant do it god knows whats up with it its way beyond my expertise ive even tried all the configurations in bios

yeah thanks for all the help i did it in the end. if anyone has got a giga byte ga-k8n pro sli motherboard, or the ga-k8n ultra sli. you have to get the drivers for the sata/raid on the cd that came with the motherboard i know its stupid because how can you install the cd without the o/s. instead you have to get a floppy and install the drivers on the floppy. if you go into the cd open the folder BootDRV and then open the MENU.exe select E and it will extract it to your floppy, and when you install windows again press f6 and install the drivers
