Installing Windows 7 X64

Hi guys,

Ive just purchased a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium preinstalled. The thing is that its 32bit. I decided to install the 64bit version. The problem is when I try to activate windows the response goes like this 'The Windows 7 Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation'. Ive made sure that I installed the correct operating system and used the oem key that was used on my 32bit. My question is:

Did I do something wrong?
Is there a way to tackle this?
Are the keys different to 32 and 64 bit?

hopefully there are some suggestions that will fix this issue or an explanation of im supposed to do. thanks in advanced.

From what i understood is that your computer came with Win7 Home Premium 32-bit. You took the key that was already installed on your computer and you installed a fresh copy of Win7 64-bit and you want to activate the key that you copied from your 32-bit version. Correct me if i'm wrong. But if that's the case, no you cant do that because those are two separate versions and the keys are different for both versions. That's why is probably telling you that the key is invalid.

hey lubo4444, yes what your saying is correct, except the part where 32 and 64 have different keys to their own. and i managed to solve the issue by calling microsoft toll free and managed to get it activated.
