installing windows with a wrong sn

i recently was given permission to use a media center disc to install , with a legal serial #. but made a mistake, and used my regular professional version serial #. the installation didnt fail, it just installed pro, even with a media center disc. i reformatted and no longer have the media center disc, but i have a professional disc, and a home serial, will the same thing happen and will i get a copy of home out of the professional disc?
 
wow, i didnt know that windows cds contained other versions of it. I would just say to try installing ur xp pro disc on a partition so that if it doesnt work ur not completely screwed. Then if it doesnt, try to get ur hands on an XP Home disc.
 
Serial keys should only work with the version specified. If you installed XP Pro then the disk was XP Pro not media center. Last I checked each key is specific to each OS, so no, you probably would not get Home Edition out of a pro disk by putting in a Home Edition key.
