I am looking to install windows onto a new hard drive. The computer i am building is not complete. If i put the hard drive into another computer and installed windows. Then put it back into the computer i am building when all parts are available would everything function properly.
 
thats a very iffy area. if the computer you put the hard drive in first has the same chipset on the motherboard that the other one has then it will work. Usually though, when you do that it causes a lot of problems. The operating system typically doesn't like it because of the massive amounts of hardware change. If i were you i'd just wait until your new computer is built.
 
Yeah, what would be better is to use the actual motherboard and processor you're planning on being in the final build. Windows will handle a video card swap out, or any other minor hardware like that a lot better than changing the motherboard and processor.
 
Plus, chances are that you would have to re-activate Windows with a different product key. Microsoft knows when you are using their software, because of all of the hardware recognized in the system. If the systems are identical then it may not cause a problem. And even if the systems are completely different, it still may not cause a problem. But, just from experience, this is how it's always happened for me.
