Installing XP, need help ASAP

Hi, I am building a new computer and need help with reinstalling XP. I installed XP and all the drivers, then I did the activation. After I activated and restarted it, when I clicked on my name to log on it would say the product is not activated and I would have to activate it. So I clicked yes to activate it and did it again. Then, I restarted it again and the same thing came up, so I clicked yes again and it took me to a screen saying my activation was complete and to push ok to continue so I did. But, After I hit ok it took me back to the login screen and the same process over again. It is just doing the same thing every time I try to log on. I need help, please any thing is appreciated. Thanks

The next time you see the activation prompt choose the activate later option to escape that. Once you reach the desktop go to the Start>Run and type in "oobe /msoobe /a" at the command line and press the enter key or click the ok button. This will show if Windows was actually activated.

In XP there's a registry edit that allows you to see Windows load directly to the desktop and bypassing the need for the logon prompt each time you start Windows. The details on that are found in a registry guide seen at http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/13/

It does sound like something wasn't fully copied to the drive being found in one of the setup files. If you can follow this here and reach the desktop and find you are not activated you may have to call into MS to see if that will correct this before considering a repair or full install from scratch.

If you are forced into a clean install wait to see how things go before attempting the activation again. Something hung on you when trying to activate Windows before the problem was found and corrected.
