Installing XP on computers made for Vista.

Does anybody know if this is possible?

My friend has a computer that is running Vista, and it's sloooowwww. Like snail slow.

The computer was made for Vista. But I want to know...is it possible to format it and install XP instead? Or will this seriously mess the computer up.

I'm a new user, so any information would be usefull.

Thank you.

There is no such thing as a computer (sans a mac) that is built to specifically run a certain operating system. He should have no trouble putting XP on there.

sweet. I've heard that because the computer was not made for XP, XP might have a hard time recognizing the hardware/finding appropriate drivers. I've been told it may have to be done manually.

Any clues here?

Make sure you find all the XP drivers for the hardware first before installing it. Some computers you will have a hard time trying to find drivers. I would suggest taking original hard drive out and putting in a test drive and install windows XP and try to install drivers. If all drivers are found and installed correctly then you can put original drive back in and format and install XP.

Yea its true i have dual boot visa and xp and i had to look for like 2 months for SigmaTel HD audio driver because on sony support page there were no XP drivers because the computer was not tested with XP but with Vista and its not guaranteed that if u downgrade to XP u will find the drivers.
