Installing XP updates

I would like to install XP updates in a way that allows me to later reinstall XP from scratch without losing all the updates. I tried installing from the Windows Update website, but it was tedious and hard to follow which of the updates I'd done. I see there is an option to "download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them." Is this what I'm looking for?

Well yes let XP get all the new updates and if you reinstall you just need to do it turn on the updater when you reinstall XP!

To make shure its on just go to: Start > Control Panel > Automatic Updates

Then turn it on automatic!

The one with (Recommended!)

1. Load your computer from scratch with all the latest updates and drivers and programs that you want
2. Purchase a copy of "True Image Home" and image your computer

In case anything ever happens all you need to do is save your data (docs, pics, etc.) and format the drive and load the image on it. Loading the image takes anywhere from 2-30 minutes depending on the size of the image. A drastic cut down from the 3 hours to install Windows from scratch.

Or you could just download Service Pack 3 and avoid all the hassle.

You don't even have to burn it to a disc. Just use WinRAR and right click,
and "Extract Here". Run the Setup.exe

Once you download this file, save it on a flash drive or other device
and save it.

Service Pack 3 will install most of the updates you need to date.

You'll only need a few minor updates after that.
