Instant Messenging Security Question

I don't have a clue how to save messages so I doublt I've done that...can I tell if there is a keylogger on my computer? Dumb questions probably.

It depends what messenger but, yes!! Go to my docs and there should be a folder named "My received files". All your recent contacts (im) conversations are saved there. Just delete the contents of that folder everytime you are done talking. That is for MSN messnger. As for trillian it is located in Programfiles/trillian/users/default/logs

Ok so I went to my docs, and selected my received files but the file is empty. Does this mean these conversations have not been automatically saved? Thanks for the above info!

One way to know for sure that ur employer is not reading any of ur conversations wud be to not have them at work in the first place, and just stick to doing that stuff at home.

Almost all instant messaging programs do not send data over a network encrypted. If one was so inclined, they could just sniff it out on the network and not even have to worry about anything else. While, that is a stretch, and would take know how and time, it is possible.

Also, depending on what port the chat application uses they can also track traffic from it, not really read conversations but if you were chatting a lot they could see that.
