Integrated and Dedicated?

I just got Street Fighter 4 for my laptop but when I try to play it, my FPS (Frames Per Screen, just in case) is really low. What is usually around 60 FPS turns to 40 when the round starts. Then my friend told me that I had an integrated graphics card and that I should upgrade to a dedicated graphics card? What does this mean?

Thanks for your help in advance.

99.9999999999999999999999% of laptops can't be upgraded in this way. In any case 40FPS (frames per second BTW) isn't that bad really, I've played games well at much less than that!

Yeah 40 fps is quite smooth actually. And with a laptop you can't upgrade to a dedicated graphics card, you'd just have to buy a new lappy. But like i said 40fps ain't bad dude, what laptop is it btw?

Dedicated means that there`s a more powerful graphics card that has it`s own cpu and manages the graphics. So instead of having the integrated graphics card having to display the games graphics, and the cpu having to manage the grpahics and everything. The dedicated card helps to lighten the load and so the card manages the graphics. And makes it run quicker and smoother.

But like what has been said lappys can`t have dedicated cards.

Hope i`ve helped.

Laptops most definitely can have dedicated cards. In fact some even have two of them, i.e. any Compal/Sager/Rock high-end machine!

Haven't checked the other two lately, but Sager has some computers out right now that can max nearly any game. The mobile versions of both the i7 and the 5870 are very potent.

Sager machines == Rock machines which are actually made by Compal, Sager and Rock just customise the innards.

We didn't say you can't have a dedicated card. If you buy your laptop with an integrated card you can't upgrade to a dedicated card. Laptops can have dedicated cards, as the laptop i'm on right now has one.
