Integrated graphics question

Hey I had a question regarding integrated graphics if I may. Is it possible to use the chip from a graphics card, and convert it as an integrated chip for your motherboard? So then in theory you could have much better integrated graphics, but without a big card taking up slots? Has this ever been done, is it possible, and if so is it hard to do?

There is a reason the cards are so big. Manufacturers are constantly trying to make their dies as small as possible, but that just means there's more room on a pcb for more processing horsepower to be crammed in. My understanding of it is admittedly flawed, but I think my basic concepts are fairly sound. They may be able to make a decent integrated GPU sometime in the future, but they will always be able to make a more powerful one on a big bulky, power hungry card.

Well I mean, what if you stuck the chip from the graphics card onto your motherboard and then used your fans or whatever to cool it? Or is there just no place to put that chip on today's boards?

Its what almost all laptop GPUs are.

You don't retrofit often because its called redesigning the whole electronics. ie, hard core electronics. People do however mod their laptop GPUs however this is not for the faint hearted.
