I was going to buy a computer with this CPU but I know its been out for a while. Will this CPU allow me to play most games in high res and will it be able to handle games to come in the future?

Dude this chip has only been out like a month? It will do anything you throw at it and it doesent all come down to your CPU your GPU has to be good aswell. What GPU do you have or were you thinking of getting?

i was thinking the Gt 220, I know how important this is but it seems like prices just sky rocket after the 220.

Hense why i dont buy nVidia.

ATi are cheaper and have just as much performance. Dont get a 220 go with ATi's 4890 or 5770 if you would want DirectX 11 (4890 for DirectX 10.1)

The Intel Core i7 920 Quad-Core is an extremely powerful processor presently as FairDoos stated.

The only thing I don't like about the Core i7 920 is it is a 130 Watt processor. I don't like paying the power bill at the end of the month.

All prices here are from www.newegg.com

$290 Intel I7-920
$110 nVidia 250

$400 dlls total

If you have gaming in mind I would slightly change where you spend the money.

$200 Intel I5-750 2.66ghz (OC to 3.6GHZ+)
$175 MSI nVidia 260

This will give you much better frame rates

Also if you can go a little higher then $400 the nVidia 275 can be found for $240 bringing your total to $440 this would be a dramatic increase in FPS from a 220/250

The 4890s are good with the i7s :)
I looked at buying the GTX 275, but ended up getting the 4890 because it was slightly better for about the same price. If the 4890 is better than the 275, I would assume it's a lot better than the 220 and the 250.
