Intel 2.8ghz vs Intel 3.0ghz?

I'm thinking about buying either the 2.8 or 3.0. The 2.8 is cheaper so I would rather save money and get that one, but I don't want an outdated processer. Is the 3.0 that much faster? maybe I could overclock it to 3.0ghz? would that be the same as having the real 3.0 version? Thanks.

actully, if you compare a 3GHz, to a 2.8GHz overclocked to 3GHz, the 2.8 would be better as the FSB would then be higher then the 3GHz

yea exactly. get the 2.8ghz and overclock. but if ur getting this comp from a company like dell or hp then u wont be able to overclock as the bios dont allow. so wat company are u getting it from and if ur custom building wat type of mobo.

if u get a good one u can overclock to speeds beyond 3.0ghz.

But a 3Ghz oc'd to 3.2Ghz would be better than a 2.8ghz oc'd to 3.0 :P

I'd say get the 2.8Ghz if your on a tight budget, but if you can afford the 3.0 then i would get that.

My friend has a p4 2.8, but i went to his house and oc it to 3.36, no problem at all, very stable. So I'd say get 2.8 one, but make sure u have a good mobo, otherwise u won't be able to oc that much.

I'm thinking about getting ECS 945P-A (1.1) Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard.
Dont and save yourself the grief (especially if you want to OC). Something solid like a ASUS P4P800SE will outpace that ECS board hands down

1. True, unfortunatley, that's not an option
2. Not true if you're only concerned with FSB/BUS speed .. the 3.0->3.2 would result in a FSB of 213MHz, the 2.8->3.0 would result in a FSB of 214MHz
