I was wondering if I can upgrade from the Intel P D 930 to the newer *Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 3GHz 6MB 45nm 65W Dual Core Processor* without having to switch my motherboard. I was reading that they are Duo support now. I just want to make sure, Any info regarding would be helpful!

Not to mention supports 45nm chip

What motherboard do you have...some of the 945 chipset boards are 45nm compatible...

However, since u have Pentium D most likely your board is slightly older and does not have this support. You would need to post model number but I'm thinking you will need new board if you wanna go with that new cpu

the board only supports up to 1066mhz FSB, the e8400 is 1333Mhz. Also, i doubt it would even support the 45nm process.

It depends what board he has....there are a few mobos with 945 chipset that support 45nm and can take the newer duos and quads,...

we need to know his mobo model...not just the chipset

One thing I will say to the OP is that it is most likely you WILL need a new mobo.

I'm doubting you will have one of the 945p boards with support for 45nm and/or wolfdale cpu.

Even the one I posted can't take quads

Yeah I wouldn't even begin to know which board Sony would use. Anyhow anyone have upgrading references on a new board?

well the core2duo line is made for socket 775 motherboards, but there are other factors, like your chipset.

But I am just going to but a whole new board and just start from anew.
