Intel C.2 Duo e6400 & e6600 --> Big Difference?

I am shopping for a new motherboard and cpu, I would like to know, is there a major difference between

Intel Core 2 Due

E6400 (2.13GHz, L2 Cache: 2MB)
and
E6600 (2.40GHz, L2 Cache: 4MB)

in terms of performance? Am not a gamer, so gaming effects dont matter to me, but I will be running Windows Vista on it (256mb Video Card)

The L2 Cache capacity, where does it matter ?

I would get the E6400 then. You won't notice a difference (IMO). However, if the price gap is small (I'm not up-to-date with the prices right now), I would go for the E6600.

Ya if your willing to pay more money you might as well get it but if your on a tight budget just get the 6400. There both great anyways:D

6600-good
6400-good

price for both-bad

6600-better than 6400

6600-not a budget proc
6400-strong and cool for budget

6400- easily overclockable to way past 6600 stock speeds

I am not very familiar with the overclocking disadvantages, because everywhere I read speaks about increasing performance.

So if overclocking does not actually have disadvantages, could I overclock the e6600? Do I need a special motherboard to do that Job?
Right now, I am trying to make my a decision regarding which motherboard to purchase; either:
ASUS P5B-VM ($140) or ASUS P5B Deluxe ($200)
I don't need all the extra specefications which the deluxe model delivers, but it is possible that one of them overclockable and the other is not. What do you think ?

Either ASUS P5B should be good.

If you have the extra money, the E6600 is worth the money because of the increase in cache. The multiplier is also higher (9x instead of 8x), so it can be overclocked with less reliance on the motherboard reaching high FSB speeds.

I have made my decision, I will purchase the e6600. But now I am thinking of cutting down on the Motherboard a little bit. I found this Intel DP965LTCK Motherboard.

Socket 775 Intel 965 Express + ICH8 Chipset Dual Channel DDR 533/667/800 6-Channel Audio Gigabit Lan Firewire PCI-Express x16 Graphic Slot
Support Intel Core 2 Duo Processor

Plus, an Intel Processor with an Intel Motherboard, more compatibility maybe? or is Asus better ?

Don't get an intel motherboard!!! They are great for non overclockers, but have no options for overclocking. If you are looking on cutting down on the motherboard, consider the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 or the Gigabyte GA-965P-S3.

Briefly speaking, Overclocking is a term used to simply say "Boost Up the actual speed manufacturer rated performance to a higher level" ?

Can I, a non-advanced PC user, perform the overclocking thing and gain extra performance and forget about it? Or do I have to adjust the settings of the overclocking technique everytime I make adjustment in the motherboard (for example, change Video Card, Add Ram, put DJ Audio Card.. etc)... Reason why I am asking, is because I am assuming overclocking is something for real advanced computer users and big gamers!

I don't understand why you say the prices are bad @ $220 and $317?
Great stock performance, hugh overclocking headroom, low temperatures.

You can do it too. There are plenty of overclocking threads all over this forum. You only need to do it once regardless of adding other hardware.

1)Yes ofcourse the 6400 can oc way past 6600 stock speeds..thats a no brainer...its nearly with every cpu that the lower end line can oc past the stock speeds of a higher end...but the e6600 can oc further than the 6400 :)

2)The prices are okay, though the e6400 gives more than enough for nearly $100 cheaper, the $100 doesnt justify the difference.
