I would like to overclock my CPU, i have heard the E6600 can handle 3.0Ghz at 100% stability. How do i overclock it though? Thanks in advance

You can't overclock a Dell, either in the BIOS or from within Windows.

I haven't tried it with the newer dells, and my old P3 overclocks in such big increments that it doesn't work.

IF you can overclock it, you MIGHT be able to get it to 3.0, but you can't adjust voltage, and that's a problem. Next time, don't buy a dell :P

The new ones (as far as I know) are configured somehow so if you try to raise the speed even a few Mhz, it will crash. I tried it on the Dell I used to have back in March, and if I tried to get it from 2000MHz to 2002Mhz, it would lock up.

Even my motherboard, which doesn't have voltage controls, is only able to bring mine up to 2.05, which is horrible. I doubt he could reach 2.6Ghz if he was able to OC it.

Sorry to go off topic but would the e6600 really wipe its ass with the 4200+?
Are you talking about the X2 4200+?

the e6300 is better than the X2 4200+ in most apps, and the e6600 is better than the FX-60 in most apps.
just check benchmarks.

in fact even the e6400 beats the FX-60 in some benchmarks.

the FX-60 does beat it in some benchmarks, but in most practical everyday applications the core 2 duo is a better architecture than athlon 64... not to mention the fact that you save a bit of money on your electric bill, and its MUCH more overclockable lol

You probably wouldn't notice a difference comparing the two in just web browsing, but if you are a power hungry user, that it is worth getting the Intel.

So it something you would actually see and feel in real world apps. not just benchmark numbers?

Perhaps if you monitor the FPS in games, you will notice a difference. But generally speaking you won't see a difference.

yea, the more noticeable changes would be things like if you got a western digital raptor... or even two of them in RAID 0
in fact its a lot more noticeable if you're a power user that likes a nice cool processor. my core 2 duo runs at 27C idle at default clocks and my old x2 3800+ ran at like 36C idle with a better heatsink... one that was probably twice as good... and they were both lapped to 2000grit.

Well im going to be upgrading my HD to a 150gb raptor from a 36gb raptor.
I didnt think raid 0 was needed though as im not doing video editing.
