Intel Core 2 or AM2?

what are you going to do with the pc (i.e. gaming + ocing?) and whats your budget.

The C2D are obviously better, and cost effective. Although, what are you trying to do, run Oblivion at full at 999999999x9999999999 resoultion??? lol...

fyi a c2d e6400 is about 210USD and a 3800+ x2 is like 160USD. Now, I know the preformance bumb is substantial, but if you are on a budget. I also find that I can find mobos for teh am2's with better nb's, cause they've been out longer (and I mean by $$$,). That's just because i don't like the Intel chipsets X/...

Better NB's? I must say that the P965 NB is amazing at overclocking. But if you are saying about low cost motherboards, yes, amd motherboards are in general cheaper than Intel motherboards.

AM2 has better CPUs in lower value, but their higher end doesn't go as far. Core 2 Duo, you start really getting in the good when are e6600, which has a 4 mb cache. The ones below have 2.

Whats your budget, and what will it be used for?

That is what i'm saying, see: (and I mean by $$$,) ;)

EDIT: And I KNOW I didn't explain it clearly, but i'm busy at teh moment and typing fast X/

Thank You for loads of your replies. My budget is not much : $980 Canadian w/o graphic card but w/ monitor. Am2 is cheaper, so if you guys think it is good, then i will get that instead of COre 2 Duo.

I will be multitasking, i wont be gaming a lot (5hours a week).

THANKS!

EDIT: wont be overclocking.

I would go with an AM2 processor then! That's pretty clear..

Wait...agreed with whom? We are in agreement that an X2 is the better choice, considering the budget, and with no OCing in mind.

depends on the board, but the p975x can beat out the p965, dispite all the hype around the 965 :)

Do you even know what you're saying?
Are you 2 sharing a reconcilation token? :)

given budget contraints amd x2 may be a clearer option

And AM2 is a socket not a cpu!!

X2 3800+ Energy Efficient (AM2)
Gigabyte AM2 Motherboard with adequate integrated graphics
Antec Sonata Case w/ PSU
Muskin 1GB dual channel DDR2 667
Viewsonic 19" Widescreen monitor
Maxtor 250GB SATA2 hard drive with 16MB cache
Optical Drive of your choice

Total = $958 w/o an optical drive.

Note: I put that together quickly, but I am pretty sure of everything except the motherboard. I also wasn't sure if you wanted 2GB or not, but I don't really think I could fit 2GB in.

Check your private messages b3atofang3l, I sent you the links there, but forgot to copy all of the links to here.
