Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 question...!

- So, today i have upgraded my C2D E7300 to C2Q E8400 and im completely done with bios update, clean installation of Windows 7 64BIt...etc, but still im curious that because in my win7 64bit i got ratings of cpu and ram like about 6.9 and not even 7.3 like my friend PC? So does this mean it's because of Multiplayer "6" ? because right now in the cpu-z it showing only 2000mhz of 2.66ghz and not 2666?
 
Firstly, WEI ratings are useless and don't add up to real world/gaming performance.

You should clear the BIOS settings to default so it loads the appropriate settings for your hardware.

As for CPU-Z, Intel processors have a thing called EIST or SpeedStep. What this does is clock down the CPU to a lower frequency and voltage when it's idle to save power. Once the cpu goes under any decent load (like gaming or loading programs) it ramps up to full speed and power.

What are your system specs?
 
The Core 2 Quad Q8400 has about as much processing power as my Phenom II 945 Quad-Core Processor. They are still powerful little processors. The Core 2 Duo E7300 only has about 50 percent of the processing power of the Core 2 Quad Q8400.

And like Linkin said, Microsoft Windows Ratings are near worthless. They can be very inaccurate.

MOBO: ASRock G41C-S
RAM: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4670 1GB GDDR3
HDD: 320GB Hitachi SATA 2
PSU: PowerMax 500Watt.
 
Really IMHO, your money shouldve gone to a new PSU and GPU as they are certainly the bottle neck.
 
I agree with Bigfellla. Your power supply is not good quality. Take a look at a power supply unit manufactured by one of these companies:

I wouldn't even consider this list useful.

For starters, some of the companies either don't exist any more or don't make power supplies, such as Asus (don't make PSU's) and BFG (don't exist any more). When Asus DID make power supplies (or rather relabel them) , they were mediocre at best.

Secondly, most of the brands there are not worth thinking about.

They are the only ones I would consider. The others, if they even make power supplies, for some it is don't even give them time of day, or it would depend on the model, because they will either have one or two decent units, or they will have a single line that is decent.

@OP, as Linkin said, WEI means absolutely nothing. And you didn't mention your friend's PC. It could easily be explained why he had a higher score if it happens to be the case that either he has a higher clocked chip than you, a different chip all together, or how he ran the test.

I will update some of my list. I really like my OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600 Watt power supply unit. It has not given me any problems and I have owned it about 28 months.

What is wrong with Channelwell, Enermax, Masscool, OCZ, Sparkle Power, XClio and Zalman power supply units?

Channelwell - chinese rubbish, Low quality Fuhjyyu capacitors, Badly designed PFC circuit, same with sparkle and xclio

Enermax - mixed bag, hard to recommend as a brand - ok for some specific models - same with zalman and ocz
 
Bomberboysk who has a lot of building experience said the following:

Can't really go wrong with Enermax, Sparkle Power, and XClio. Masscool and XClio power supply units still rely on somewhat dated designs. He has not seen Masscool power supplies on the market for a few years now he would suspect most of them are pretty dated.

Enermax tends to be more expensive than the competition but otherwise are generally decent.

Zalman power supply units are excellent but you pay a slight premium in price, especially since they are designed towards noise conscious users with the heatpipe cooling system and large fans.

Channelwell is OEM for a number of well regarded units, such as a number of the Corsair TX line, (TX-750 and 850 are great examples).
