I just recently finished my first build and it came out o.k. But I'm a little concerned about the CPU (Intel P4 660) temp. I've got it on a Intel D945PVS board that came with Intel Desktop Utilities, and according to it, the CPU is Idling around 50*C., with the CPU fan running at about 1025rpm. Don't know if any of you are familiar with this utility, but it has a Stress Test section that you can load various hardware components to various degrees. When I tested the CPU, CPU MMX, Ram, 3D and 2D graphics at a 75% load, the CPU temp rose to about 62*-63*C, and the fan increased to about 2000-2050 rpm. I'm using a Antec Performance I P180 Super-Mid Tower case, which has two fans in the upper chamber, 1 on back near the top, and in the top near the back. So the CPU is sandwiched in between the two. Originally I had the 2 120mm fans being controlled by the Mobo, but I just changed it around and connected them to the PSU and swiched them to high just to see if the CPU temp would be affected, but it's still right about the same. Do I believe this utilitiy, or can anyone recommend a more reliable one? And will there be a conflict if I have 2 or more utilities installed at the same time?? Or do I need to rip the heatsink off and use Arctic Silver instead of this thermal pad??? Any and all info and comments will be welcome, and appreciated. Thanks!!!!
