I don't know how many people know this but Intel OEM processors are not covered under the 3 year warranty. I just found this out the hard way today. On my old build, I came to the conclusion that my processor was bad. So I thought just get it replaced through Intel since it should be under warranty. I contact Intel support and they told me that only retail processors are covered under the 3 year warranty. What a bunch of crap
Know I don't know what to do with that build. I have thought about either buying a new processor for it and either sell it or give it to my dad. If I give it to my dad, I don't know if I should get another q6600 or get an e8400. He does not do any heavy stuff, mainly just office work, internet, etc, no gaming or videos. If I tried to sell it, I would think it would sell easier with the q6600.
Sometimes the machine runs fine and other times it will not boot. I have thought about overclocking the heck out of it and see how far I can push it until I destroy it since it is useless anyways. The only thing is I would be worried about destroying something else along with the processor. Almost everything else is fairly new.
Any other ideas on what to do with a damaged processor? Use it for target practice? Anybody every shot at one, what does it do?
