i wanna buy a processor, but i don't know which CPU is better!
somebody can tell me his experience with intel and amd?
thanx

depends on what u will want to be doing.

it normally is said that intel is better for multi tasking whil AMD is better for focusing on one job that uses lots of power, e.g. gaming.

Intel and AMD are just companies that make processors.

Intel currently make the best processor: Core 2 Duo. Either dual-core or there is the one that is quad-core (but, it's very expensive).

AMD's flagship processor is the Athlon 64 X2. Dual-core, and second place behind the C2D. But, being 2nd place, it's cheaper.

i think this has been answered hundreds of times, but im not sure. i mean have you read any other threads...

The FX series is in second place

Here's how it goes:

QX6700
C2D
FX
X2
PD
A64
P4
Sempron
Celeron

It certainly has, but that doesn't mean that we can't answer it again.

Im looking to

build a computer that is under400-500 so how much do you think I should spend on the cpu? I dont play games alot but I do sometimes and when I do I want it to work. should I just use an intel cpu that can handle the games Im playing?

For that budget, get an Athlon 64 3500, maybe a 3200 or a 3800.

Well the core 2 duo is a great all around CPU and if you learn how to overclock properly then you get so much more for your money. Though there have been study one the socket A Athlon XP 3200 proving that it is better then the P4 3GHz. It said on the AMD website and other places too. But they cost almost as much as a Core 2 duo so just go with a core 2. Are you building from scratch or is this an upgrade?

C2D
FX
X2

We're talking about current desktop processors here, not obsolete and mobile. And the core duo is not better than the FX.

And I was trying to keep this as simple as possible. Plus, there's no real way to do this without actually lining up each individual model.

depends on the FX... the highest CD will crush the FX62

and I edited the list... please requote

this is true... AMD is stalling for some reason, they havent even released a 65nm version of a64 yet... i hope they know what theyre doing..

i mean personally, i support both companies... competition is always good for the market. ive built a few intels for clients and a few AMD's... mostly AMD's for the cheaper builds just because you get better performance per watt out of semprons than you do celerons... thats netburst for ya :D

core 2 duo is very expensive !

It's expensive because it's good.
