can someone help me??

im after a resonably cheep 64bit processor, am well aware of conroe etc but they are well out of my price range.

however i have come across a "Intel P4 531 3.0 GHz CPU 64 bit"
for £70 on ebay....

what do you guys think? im an amd fan so this would be my first build with intel

i would like to know if intel is like amd when a processor is 2.4+ but runs 2.0?-will this processor run at 3.0??

thanx for your time people

70 pounds = roughly 133 USD

Anyways, I think you would be better off getting a Pentium D, as they are very cheap now and are dual core.

As for the AMD rating system, its actually the athlon 64 3200+ that runs at 2.0ghz. But for intel, the rating system for that cpu is 531, but the 3.0ghz still stands. However, comparing clock speeds between amd and intels doesn't really work.

IMO that £70 for a 3GHz Intel is crap!

You can get a 3Ghz P4 from OverclockersUK for under £50!!

But yeah I also think It would be a better investment getting a Dual core.

IIRC there around £80 now:)

lmao-i dont really know about intel. i know about conroe that will be my build after this-not the bottom line one neither!!!

what about amd athlon 3.5 64bit venice core? £50

or

3.7 64bit san diego? £60

He lives in the UK i believe, and yea it runs at 2.2ghz,but dont worry about clock speed,it'll beat a 3ghz Intel most definitely

My 3500+ beat out my friends P4 running at 3.6ghz,just goes to show that clock speeds mean nothing nowadays.
