Intel P9 Board with an Older PCIE x1 GPU

Hey all,

I am planning to upgrade my old quad core 775 to the intel 6 core with 2011 socket mobo with pcie x3 , now I am gonna buy mobo , cpu and ram, anything else I will add from my existing comp , my question is can I run a PCIE x1 GPU on the new mobo with PCIEx3 port or am I gonna have some issues...
I can't afford to invest more cash on a new GPU for that board so I was hoping that for the time being I would use my old card till I save some more cash to buy a new PCIE x 3 Card.

any help would be appreciated.

Just wondering what is the advantage between P9X79 and P9X79 PRO, I am gonna use this system only for graphic design, I can see the expansion slot difference..., anything else?
 
better components overall i think...probably better chokes and coils on the board, id get the deluxe if you can spare the dough, adds a second NIC + Wifi and bluetooth.
