2 laptops, one with the amd turion 1.8ghz, and other with intel pentium centrino 1.73ghz, what performance differences wil li get and whcih one should get?

ur best bet is to wait a month or 2 for when the new AMD line comes out, then get a laptop then from AMD cuz itll use DDR2. if you cant wait, just go with the intel, just cuz it uses DDR2

Definitely the Turion
1. It is AMD, which means that clock speed means almost nothing in comparisons
2. It is 64-bit (doesn't mean a lot now, but it may quite soon)

But I would wait for AMD's Turion X2, which is supposed to be much cheaper than the Core Duo. That is what I am planning to get with my new lappy.

That was relevant... with the Pentium 4's. We are talking about Pentium M's here, which have a much different architecture.

I'd say they are both relatively equal.

Exactly as clutch said, the Pentium M's run at a much lower clock speed, similar to AMD's, and it gets the job done better than the higher clock speed P4's. Just look at the conroe or Core Duo...

The 64-Bit part is a plus for the AMD, however as of now it really doesnt make any difference.

I suggest you wait until Intel comes out with dual core Conroe processors or Merom. Its going to be fast and I heard its also going to have 64-Bit.

I would wait until AMD brings out the Turion X2, which supposed to be better than the Core Duo and a lot cheaper.

actually from what i read... it isn't going to be any better... they are going to have the same power consumption (small plus for dual core) but smaller L2 caches than intel's yonah... either 256KB or 512KB per core... and i know L2 caches aren't everything, but it is a difference...

as for cheaper, that's only what i hear now... and for your info, i'm not an intel fanboy, i'm an amd one...
