Hello,
I was wondering which of the followings processors are better:
-Intel Pentium Dual Processor 920 Viiv
-AMD athlon 64 x2 4200+

Which one is the best for gaming ?

Thank You

NB: you may include reviews.

VIIV is Intel's 'digital entertainment' moniker, but the label doesn't mean much on a CPU it's a whole platform only label.

In any case the Athlon will be better for gaming.

for gaming the AMD is hands down the better processor. AMD dual cores beat out intel dual cores in every aspect of PC usage. so if ur getting a dual core seriously dont consider a Pentium D at all unless u have 2.

where can i find an inexpensive cpu?

I'm looking into building a decent gaming computer adn am looking for a processor for a lower price than $170 (thats what i found at tiger direct).

i've been looking at the AMD cpu's but they don't seem powerful as far as GHZ go...

any help would be greatly appreciated

by the way, what is bus speed? and how important is it?

i know enough that even though the athlon processors only usually only read like 2.2ghz or 2.4...for games they supposively play as well as pentiums 3.0ghz or better even with the slower speed

If you want dual core for cheap, go to ebay and search "Pentium D 820" or "Intel D945PSN". You can find a combo of:

Pentium D 820
Intel D945PSN
Windows XP Pro
Adobe Photoshop Elements
Adobe Premiere Elements

for $320 with shipping. A lot better deal than an $85 socket 939 motherboard and a AMD 3200+. I am not doing this for a sales pitch, I just learned from experience

CPU 101

Bus Speed

I beleive that the because of the bus speed, amd beats Intel in everything.

I'm not sure on this, but i have just opened a new thread under the title of Some noob qestions under this section:

AMD's are the best out there for gaming. However the X2 series outperforms the Pentium D series at everything. And AMD's cpus are able to perform much better at a slower clock speed than the Pentium D's. The Pentium M also has a low clock speed, but it easily outperforms a Pentium 4 of equal speed.
