Intel vs. AMD question

hey guys, still working on my first computer build for gaming. Just wondering what might be the better deal here for gaming:

Core2 Duo E4600 (2.4Ghz) 2MB Shared Cache for $170

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ (125W) Dual-Core Socket AM2, 3.2GHz at $178

I'm trying not to go over $200 with the CPU. Thanks for any input.

I would go for the AMD. i have had no problem with my AMD 4000+. So you should be very happy.

thanks guys. I have never tried overclocking, just started reading about it when I decided to build my own rig. I think I will stick with the AMD in this case.

So I should buy the Core 2 Duo and OC it?? How much do you think I would have to spend on a decent heat sink to get the 2.6 up to 3.0+???

If your gonna stay on stock go with AMD
If you overclock go with Intel

AMD= Cheaper, Solid
Intel (when Ocing)=BANG FOR YOUR MONEY!

On the ocing part.....

I don't know much

I'd go for an AC Freezer 7 Pro (775)
Bought one of each for my systems, and as you can see, they cool my uber-hot overclocked P4s with ease.

Also make sure your MoBo is a good overclocker so it's not going to be limiting you.

I would go for the Intel, should overclock real nice.
