Intel vs. AMD

I am thinking about building a desktop, but i can't decide if i want to put Intel or AMD in. what is the difference. also i was looking at some intel processers and saw a pentium D 3.4 Ghz and a core 2 duo 2.13 Ghz. what is better between the two of those processors?

Well thats a broad question, since AMD and Intel both have different kinds of processors, so you cant ask which one will perform better. But right now Intel has the highest performing card.

The Core 2 Duo 2.13Ghz is much better then the Pentium D 3.4Ghz.

Thats just one cpu benchmark for 3d graphics, but as you can see, it is one example of the core 2 duo's superiority.

However, if you were to spend 200.00 on a processor, the AMD 5600 would be a good choice, IMO. Especially if you weren't going to overclock.

intel^

However, intel does seem to produce a slight edge is some cases, but so does AMD.

I would buy the intel, but IMO, AMD has an evenly matched processor in this instance.

Go with Intel, AMD always has some little annoying problem such as, broken pins, over-rated performance, and just the bare lack of technology. Get the new Intel E4400 Core 2 Duo when it arrives this week.

Well I just got my core 2 duo E6600 couple days ago to replace my pentium d915 and it seems like a huge improvement, I cant find any first person shooter to slow it down(paired w/8800gts). BUT for some reason it doesnt seem to run medieval 2 that much better, I guess that game is brutal on processors. I did a lot of research kind of like what your doing right now, and it really seems like intel is the way to go.BUT I hear amds new lineup is going to be great. I have no Idea when it comes out though, just heresay

Yea Medieval 2: Total War destroys processors and graphics cards, its a beast of a game..

Makes sense though, literally thousands of individual units being rendered along with the environment and what not..

I dont care as long as its the best at the time Ill go AMD or INTEL

Yeah, when I try to distinguish before the two companies, I look at every CPU on its own merit, past impressions don't come into play. At the moment the Core 2 Duo line is shredding AMD's line up really badly. Core 2 Duos use less power and performs faster for just a bit extra. The extra cost is totally justified in my opinion.

Intel does have the best performing CPU, but im still an AMD fan. Also, i would not even look into getting a Pentium D.

As for the person that said AMD has always had little problems, well iv had my Athlon X2 for about a year now and not one problem with it, even OCed it alot. And for the broken pin problem, if you dont remove the CPU you dont have that problem :D .
