Intel what?

I have a 6600 GT nVidia graphics system, 1 gig of DDR mem and a 450 W PSU. I was wondering, how much processing power do I need to make my graphics system run faster (or fast enough for the demanding games now-a-days). Right now my CPU can barely handle BF2 on medium settings and a resolution of 800 X 600.

a AMD would be better for gaming but, its prabally your mobo you dont want to change so its cool, intel can still run games fine.

how much do you want to spend on a CPU?

I can probably spend about 300-375 on a CPU. . . I'm lookin at a P4 3.6 and I have a Gigabyte P4 Titan Series--GA-8SG800 (w/e that means).

the 2.8's with ht and northwood core are highly overclockable. you can reach up to 3.6 easy

I have a 2.8 prescot withOUT h/t and ive overclocked it to 3.25Ghz. And this is on a shitty Abit SG-72 board. I could certainly go further if i had a decent board like the ASUS P4P800 Deluxe. But more to the point, oc'ing to 3.6Ghz inst quite the same as actually buying a 3.6Ghz chip

Well you're gonna be running that "3.6Ghz" at 2.4GHz because your SiS board only supports up to a BUS speed of 533Mhz. That and the fact that there is no S478 3.6Ghz processor

You mean "2.8 prescott with HT disabled".

OK so a 3.4 is as high as I can go? how much do you think I could overclock it to neways?
