intel x3100 graphics card

my computer has the intel x3100 graphics card with 358mb of video ram and the 965 Express Chipset Family. is that a good graphics card or not really?
 
I the Intel (GMA) X1300 Media Accelrator is a onboard graphics unit. It uses shared memory and is not a graphics (card). Onboard graphics are found exactly on the motherboard and are built in through the chipset. This a ok GPU for doing basic task such as home office, Internet browsing, viewing pictures, and email. If you want to do anything more than that, then you will probably have to upgrade graphics cards. For one onboard graphics uses your RAM memory, so technically, your do not have as much RAM as you have installed. If your doing gaming, video editing, photoshop graphics, etc... You will probably have to go with something higher, such as the nVidia Geforce 7 and 8 series, or ATI X1950 series and the like. It would also be nice to have DDR2 or DDR3 memory built on the card. Explore your options.

if i have 4gb of 800mhz DDR2 RAM, does that make my video card work better?

EDIT: o and also its for a notebook, so when i ask if its good, i mean is it good for a notebook?

Ram doesn't affect video card performance, no. 4Gb's is quite a bit of RAM though, you're probably not using half of it most the time. And to answer the other question, it's the same or close to the same as the desktop version, so it's no better because it's a laptop card, though usually only high end laptops have the best graphics cards, and that may not be an option for most people considering price.
 
It's an integrated chip, so no matter how much memory you have, it won't run better. And for a laptop, it'll do everything you want except gaming.
 
As for as integrated video goes, the X3100 is one of the best. However it's still not good for gaming, you can get away with older games, but nothing new such as Quake 4, FEAR, etc.
 
What do you usually do with your PC? If you just surfing the net and some play video, on board graphic is alright.
If you do some mild gaming, get a 8600GT/ 2600XT.
If you do some intense gaming, get a 8800GT (release soon), but make sure your PSU can handle it.

He has a laptop, not a desktop.

Very few laptops can have upgraded video, mainly because theres no standard for mobile video card buses, so finding one would be hard. As well as the fact that most laptops with integrated video dont have the expansion slot to begin with.
