SATA 3.0Gb/s
SCSI Ultra320 80pin
IDE Ultra ATA100
Ultra320 SCSI
Serial ATA150
IDE Ultra ATA133
SCSI Ultra320 68pin
Serial Attached SCSI (SAS)

Which do you recommend and why? What's the difference between the two IDEs?

There are 3 basic interfaces; IDE, SATA, and SCSI. You listed SCSI three times, just in different ways, lol.

Both SCSI and SAS require it's own controller card in order to work, which can get pricey, as well as the hard drives. Although you can get 15K RPM SCSI drives which are by far the fastest around.

SATA 3.0Gb/s is the best choice. It's the most common type nowadays and is generally the cheapest, as well as fastest (behind SCSI/SAS).

ATA133 is the latest version of IDE, so most if not all new IDE hard drives are ATA133 compliant. ATA100 is just a slower version.

I use SATA2 (3.0GB/s) and ATA133 and can't see a real difference in speed.. both of my drives are 7200RPM and WD brand.

Still, I recommend SATA for it's tiny, easily hidden wires :)

sata II is the best technology out there its replacing IDE so to buy IDE would be buying something on the way out... also the wires are great for your case... nice and small
