internal 2nd hard drive not recognized

I hate getting into this mess again. i had an old computer that sat in the closet for about two years. .5 gig of ram and p4 intel with two hd's. WD 160gig.
i formatted the primary and reinstalled the original xp home cd. went and checked from explorer and noticed it was not there. i took the security and critical updates then rebooted. shows up in the bios, but not from windows.
Any ideas........

there both ide. i just checked. they are both in the device manager. and says they are ok. (its working properly).

Try control panel/ administrative tools/computor management/Diskmanagement.

Does it show up there ?

Yep..........both say healthy. (both says NTFS)

funny thing. just checked again and now its gone.

It´s not something simple like loose/bad connection/ribbon ?

naaaa....i just checked it. unplugged ide and power cables. give a soft blow around the connectors. hooked back up. its showing up in device manager though. i'll se if i can just reformat it.
