internal hard drive problems

i recently bought a 2tb internal hard drive, plugged in the power cord and information cord and it doesn't register when i open "my computer". and when i boot my computer there is this quite beeping that goes on for a while then shuts off. i'm sure i'm missing a few steps but i don't exactly know how to go about handling it.
 
yeah it makes no difference being there or not being there. it just does that beeping thing on startup, when its plugged in.
 
it could be because its brand new and unformatted windows cant see it, try going to computer right click on manage, then open disk management and see if it is visible, could also be your motherboard does not support a 2tb drive
 
Am I misunderstanding? His system starts up beeps for a while then shuts off. It does this whether or not the hard drive is connected. There is obviously another problem other than the hard drive if I got the information correct.

I am wondering if it is a problem with his motherboard, video card or RAM.
 
The drive doesnt show up in My Computer. Its just making a beeping sound that stops/shuts off. The computers not shutting off.
 
no bytes as best i read he said it doesn`t register in computer overview, i.e. he cant see the drive and when it is connected and he starts the pc then it beeps and cuts off, could be trying to boot from the blank drive, he be better starting pc then connecting it then going to disk management and format it
 
so i tried unplugging the hard drive and booting up then plugging it back in to see if it shows up in disc management: my computer booted alot faster without it plugged in, once i plugged the drive in it started beeping again and it still didn't show up in disc management.
 
It is shown in the Device Manager? Expand Disk Drives, anything highlighted in yellow?
BTW, when you get it to show in Disk Management, it will need to be initialized .

Is it shown in the BIOS Setup?
 
Hi!

Is it a SATA or IDE hard drive?
If it's IDE then you'll have to check the jumpers and the position of the HDD in relation to the cord (i.e if it's in the middle or on the end).
If it's a SATA HDD and it's not showing up in the disk management utility, the device manager or BIOS then take it back to the place where you bought it from.

Or try disconnecting your primary HDD and replacing it with the new one. Then boot from a windows installation disc to see if it gets recognized then.

no it doesn't show up in disk manager or management. i understand its supposed to be disk 01 but that doesn't happen. i've read elsewhere something about jumpers (which i have no idea what they are). also i'm pretty sure this is related: i get this message on start up saying secondary master hard disk error, press f1 to continue, and apparently i'm supposed to switch it to (none) in bios, but i dont really know how to do that.

its sata. i'll try doing what you said.
 
i've gotten to the initialize part but when i try to do it i get this message: request could not be performed because of I/O device error.
should i just get rid of this thing? because its really starting to bug me.
