Internet Browser Error

Anyone here please help me on this... I don't know if I've done something to the Internet Security settings or I don't know if it was the Windows updates to my computer I've received last night. Before there was no problem but when I opened my computer this morning and I accessed the net my browser cannot detect flash players --- a message should appear that I may have not the latest flash player but instead a blank space appears on where the player should have been. Also I can't log on to sites requiring usernames and passwords, especially friendster. How can I solve this problem?

My OS is Vista Home Basic.

I'm not using installed browsers like Firefox, its just plain Internet Explorer. I think it has something to do with my browser not detecting JavaScripts, as I have found out today that flash players is coded in JavaScript as well as Friendster links for logging in and registering. I've tried downloading JRE but still there's no Java Section in the Advanced Tab of Internet Options. I've also tried reset my browser settings but still the problem's still there.
