Can it be done? If it can then how. and should ya go with wireless or better off with usb. Im just guessing it can be done.
thanks

He lives in the bush in Northern Canada. Cell phone works. No internet available for his area.

Android or iOS? I'm sure it can be done with either but I only know about Android. There is an app called PDAnet+ which will allow USB or wireless tether. Used to be 2 different apps (PDAnet & FoxFi) but they merged into a single app about a week ago.

Remember that this type of connection uses data and depending on the carrier/plan data allowance can be very limited. I prefer wireless as I have an unlimited data plan on my phone and the wireless option allows me to connect multiple devices to the phone simultaneously while the USB option only allows a single connection.

Who is your provider? Verizon and At&t this can be done easily at no charge. Not sure about tmobile but sprint you actually have to pay for that feature but it is unlimited data. There are some free backwards ways of doing it through apps but it will require you to root your phone.

He has a simple phone only. No internet. I have a android though. Samsung ATRIX 4G with at&t.
I'll look into it. Do i need it. Not yet. New adventure though. thanks

If your cellphone can connect to the internet, you may want to try this. Turn on the Bluetooth of the cellphone and your laptop should be Bluetooth enabled too. Open the Windows Start Menu and click "Devices and Printers" to load the device list. Click "Add a Device" then click the device from the search list after Windows completes the search. Click the "Next" button. Make sure that you verify the codes both in your laptop and cellphone. Afterwards, double-click the icon for your phone on the list of devices. Then, click Connect,to "Use your phone to connect to the Internet" from the list of available options. If prompted, accept the connection request on your phone.
