Hello,

Did this dekstop work before? Is this a new desktop? Did you reinstall windows?
You want to download the latest drivers and install them.

That's why I asked about Device Manager.

If there's no Yellow Question marks, then it's not an issue
with the hardware or drivers.

In the Device Manager, does your Network Adapters have any Yellow
Question marks?

no yellow question marks or anything in device manager....and this desktop is only bout a year old. this is the first time i've tried to directly connect...previousy I used a wireless g linksys card to connect. I unitstalled and took the card out of the mobo...still trying to figure out wats wrong...something with the ethernet card not dectected?

ok I just went up to the store and bought a ethernet card. Ethernet card is now detected but still no internet???? now wat?? PLEASE HELP

Did you manually enter in the IP Address/DNS Server/Default Gateway/Subnet mask?
If you don't know I'll give you instructions on how to do that. It's just a little pain to write out step by step.

no I didn't manually enter in the ip address....instructions please..thanks!!!!:good:

It says Vista in your sig, so I'm assuming that that is correct.

Start>Run type in: "cmd"> type in: "Ipconfig/all" and there should be a list of your ipv4 address, default gateway, DNS server and subnet mask along with other things. Do you see those addresses?

I don't see ipv4 address....I see default gateway, dns server ...don't see subnet mask...I see others as well...

Opps. My bad. I'm thinking of steps to do if you internet is timing out... I'm sorry..

umm.. You did try to an upgraded driver for it right?

You posted this message somehow...

You don't have to upgrade your drivers through Windows.

You can just go download the files and save them to a USB stick or such.

ok I tried dling updated driver files from netgear...however I didn't see any files I could open to install updated drivers??? help please

Are you sure you found the correct file/driver?

For example, if I was going to find a driver for my network card:

Google " Realtek RTL8168 driver download" And I'd pick whatever looks like it's the correct one.. Usually the top 8 results that it comes up with would be what I'm looking for..

What do you mean "directly connect"?
How are you trying to hook this up exactly?
