Internet connection problems... PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi folks... I have something extremely bizarre happening with my girlfriends internet connection, and hoping you can help...

The ISP she has chosen is Tiscalli. The broadband line has been activated and she received everything for the modem installation and connection. So we've followed all the instructions word for word, everything is plugged in where it should be (ie. filters, modem cable, BT telephones etc), however when we try to connect we can never get a dial tone. So here is the strange part: We can, however, get a tone and surf the net ONLY when the land line telephone is being used and someone is on a call! Once the land line phone is hung up and the phone call disconnected, the internet connection also goes.

We've tried the ISP online and telephone assistance, but they tell us everything is normal (clearly not...). The filters have been swapped for new ones, we've un-installed and re-installed the modem software several times, but still we can't get a dial tone. I have also disabled the internal 56K modem the laptop has.

Has anyone experience this before, or have any suggestions to fix this?
Thanks for your time!

I've checked the website and wonder if you have tried disconnecting everything from the phone line but the modem connected via the adsl filter, reboot and try reconnecting?

Sure have Digidude! We got exactly the same result... "No dial tone found"... Maybe i'll try it again. Any other suggestions i'll be glad to hear! Cheers

On the modem itself there should be some lights. I need to know the model number and name of your modem, how lights there are, and what are the lights doing( i.e. on, off, or blinking).

There are only 2 lights Digidude. I can't remember off my head the model of the modem, but it's a Sagem make. It has a power light which is always on, and an ADSL light which blinks...

Ok there are two options:

1. Disconnect all whilst doubley making sure you have connected all the components properly. Try using a different USB port on your computer. When it states 'no dial tone' just keep hitting the connect button whilst browsing pages. I used to get this problem, and still do on rare occasions. It SHOULD connect.

2. Last option is to refer to your 'Tiscali Help' program that installs automatically on your desktop. Should take you through steps to rectify the problem.
