Internet connection through a phone please help me!

Right i have set up a post but i didnt explain my self properly very well! so..

I have a compaq armarda laptop running on windows xp proffesional and i want to set up an infared connection through my laptop and my phone. I can connect my phone to the laptop just by turning my phones infared on and ear a sound saying its connected.

BUT... i want to set up an internet connection from my phone i have seen this done by a friend they connected through the internet through there Sharp GX10 (i have the same) what would i need to do is it anything to do with Local Network Connections and would i need to ask my service provider from my main computer (supanet)

If you have any other ideas about getting internet on my laptop please suggest BUT i only want it to be portable so i can take it to my caravan on the east coast

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying but do you want a wireless connection like WIFI or infrared? Just buy a wireless LAN router for that. If you want to get internet anywhere and you have infrared, you can use a cell phone as an infrared modem for your laptop, but that's only with some cell phones. There's also another, more expensive way to do that so you need a PC card that cost a lot. You also need to pay for internet access. T-Mobile, AT&T, and other cell phone companies do that.

I've done it with a Samsung. It was pretty easy. I just installed the phone as a modem (I got a cable and software with the phone) and set the phone as my modem. It was faster than 56k modem. Quite expensive though.
 
I have a sharp gx10 i know it can be done because i have seen it done with a friends but how do i install it as a modem i have installed the disc that came with the phone to set up as a modem (driver) but not actually into any detail has any one got any ideas?
 
Shouldn't you just be able to install the drivers and stuff, change the modem to your phone, then connect the phone to your computer, and go?
 
Yes should be able to but how do i set up my phone to be my computers modem is it in control panel, internet options then go to connections and add?

Please correct me if i am wrong

Get the cable (or use infared connection) to your phone. Once it is connected, linked or seen by windows, Og into control panels and make sure the "modem" or phone is shown under modems. You will then need an access nhumber to dial into, to allow you rcomputer to access the internet. If you have a dial up service just use that info, phone number username and password. This will all be set up under modem in the control panels.
