Internet Connectivity Problem

Hello,

I have a desktop computer running XP. After loading files from my external hard drive to PC my computer crashed. As a result my wireless internet has stopped working. Message comes up saying Microsoft Recovered From Serious Error with the following code:

The problem comes from the PreSonus FireStudio program and the firewire driver. Do you use the software? I would try updating the driver if you do. If you don't use it, uninstall it.
 
Thanks for the response. I do use the program almost daily. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling about 1 month ago and for awhile didn't have any crashes. Any idea why it's crashing?

Also, any tips on getting my wireless internet to work again? I have tried repairing connection and also did a netsh winsock reset. Any other ideas?

Have you rebooted the system since the error? Have you looked in device manager to make sure the driver is still installed correctly. How is the external drive connected?
 
One other idea, I see my 1394 net adapter is enabled..also saw it came up in the log above as a problem. Do you recommend disabling it? I still will use the 1394 for my firewire connection to my Firestudio audio mixer so wasn't sure. I am wondering though if this is causing my wireless internet to not connect? Thanks.

I have not looked at the Device Manager yet to see if Driver is installed correctly? Do I just look for the message "device is properly functioning"?

The external hard drive is a Seagate USB 2.0.

Look in device manager under network adapters. If there is any entry with a yellow question mark or says is not functioning correctly, let me know. I also would try uninstalling it through device manager, then reboot and let windows reinstall the driver for it and see if it connects.
 
Checked Device Manager and all adapters are functioning correctly. Do you still recommend uninstalling? If so, which adapter do I uninstall - 1394 and/or wireless adapter?

I also noticed on my other computer today using wireless internet as well that it gave me a "Windows - System Error - "There is another IP address conflict with another system on the network". Think that has anything to do with other problem?

Ok, that makes sense. Do you have them set to obtain IP address automatically or do you have assigned static IP addresses? You should set them both to obtain address automatically.
 
Okay, thanks. I never thought about this until you mentioned it. I checked on my other computer and saw the Automatically Obtain Address was NOT checked so checked it.

Can you explain how this will fix the IP conflict?

Also, my wireless Linksys consistently needs to be reset (pull the power). Do you think after doing the IP fix you mentioned this will help fix this?

Make sure both are set to obtain IP address automatically. This should fix the internet issue. What happens is if you have a static IP set for one machine and the other gets assigned the same IP, only one can access the net at a time. What linksys router do you have? Have you tried updating the firmware on it?
 
It's a Linksys WRT54G. Haven't tried firmware update yet but will give it a shot.

Do you think the obtaining IP address automatically has anything to do with having to reset router repeatedly?

Haven't tried uninstalling wireless adapter though did change to auto detect Ip. I noticed there were two profiles I could select from under wireless internet options. Either Mickey Net (which doesn't connect to anything) and also there's a Default setting. So I chose Default and was able to connect to someone else's wireless in the neighborhood...though when I click on view available networks I still can't see my network. It's strange because I am still using the wireless connection on another laptop. Any ideas why one laptop can get to my network and the other can't? Thanks.
 
What Operating system are you using? If you don't have a wireless connection that connects to your own network then delete all the connections and then see if can view available wireless networks and have yours show up.
 
Using XP on all computers.

I just rebooted computer again and still get the Microsoft Recovered From Serious Error with the BC Code info I wrote about at the beginning of the thread.

Under the Reporting details it says "the error report includes information regarding the condition of microsoft windows when the problem occurred, the operation system version and computer hardware in use, and the internet protocol address of your computer".

Does that tell you anything?
 
I have some important files saved on my hard drive from my music folder that were saved this past week. If I do a system restore do you know if they will be lost?
