Internet Downloads really Slow

Hello forum, I posted this in the internet section but nits not getting alot of views so I thought I would post over here as well.

I am experiencing extremely slow download speeds for some reason and it seemed to start after I updated Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X. Does this program change settings somewhere without prompting you that it is doing it.

I have ultra high speed internet and using my providers download speed test I am only getting 120KB/sec but I was getting over 600KB/sec before the Active X update. I tried uninstalling the Active x update but this still never fixed the problem.

I can recall something similar happening on my old PC and could not figure it out and switched to FireFox and my download speed came back. I bet that it probably had something to with the Active X updates on that machine as well.

Anyway I tried using FireFox on this PC to see if there was any differences but its still slow using that browser as well.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
 
600Kb/s is not "ultra fast". It's about a 6MB connection, which isn't bad, but according to your speed test, you're at about 1.75MB.

Have you tried uninstalling Firefox and deleting all the Firefox or Mozilla folders and then reinstalling?

IE the same results? Tried Chrome?
 
try what bodaggit's suggested.

also try (if you haven't already):
- power cycling your router and modem
- renewing your IP (CMD, 'ipconfig /renew')
- plugging directly into the modem and seeing if the speeds increase

also, what OS are you running?

"Ultra Fast" is what my provider calls what I am paying for but I guess it might not be fast by todays standards.

I have tried cycling on everything several times.
I have not tried renewing my IP config but I will now I guess.

I am already plugged directly into the modem at all times. My fault I was not clear above on my connection but I am going through a Siemens Speedstream. The link below is the info on it.

I am running Vista 64 bit.
