Internet DSL Speed Help?

Hello All, I am new to this forum, I have lurked and read from time to time and now I finally have a couple questions.

Last week my old (1998) Dell Latitude went into the slow internet mode. Normally it clocks at 700kbps on my DSL line which clocks at 1MB. Last week it slowed down to 90-100kbps and has stayed that way. Gggrrr.

I got a new Pcmcia card (Xircom CE3-10/100) and the speed stays the same.

What should I try next? Any suggestions. Hate to throw it out as I keep it around and when I have company they use it to check their email etc. Thanks, Jack

Yup

Yes. I did all the normal stuff, scanned for sypware and virus. Cleaned up cookies, good and bad, scandisked, defragged, had Mcafee techscan the firewall and virus software. But I still keep clocking at dial-up speeds. Thanks, Jack

Have you called your ISP to do a test on the line itself? It could be that they are doing some work on the servers in your area which is causing the problem... I had this type of problems a few times with Comcast, and it turned out that a few servers were down, and a couple weeks later, it went back to normal. Have you tried the lappy out on another connection?

Line Checked

Yup. They came right over after I called them. Checked all the wiring and we did a side by side test with their notebook which clocked at 1MB....so it is not the line or modem, which was my initial guess.
