Internet Explorer 8 can't work. Please help!!

I'm not sure if this is where I should post this thread. Last night I downloaded IE8 because IE7 was a bit screwed up, and this is on my new laptop. So I downloaded it, and now everytime I open IE8, it says "Internet Explorer has stopped working" and then closes completely. I'm using FF3, but I would like to have a usable IE. Can someone please help? I don't know what to do. And I don't want to completely uninstall IE.

Does it say that is can't do anything, and is forced to close???

Download the IE tab for FF3 and use that for IE things.

Otherwise, what is your OS???

Where did you download IE 8 from???

It doesn't do anything! It closes right away with that error message.

My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium sp1.

I got IE 8 from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/ie8/default.mspx.

And I just found out that in order to install Norton Virus Protection, IE is mandatory. They won't let me use FF. Therefore, this is becoming urgent I see.

Thnx 4 the concern Cohen.

Wow... a strange problem.
I did the same thing ( updated from IE 7 to IE 8.0 due to crashes ) and I never had problems.

It happened once or twice, but IE 8.0 has a Crash Recovery so it automatically sends you to the site where you were before the browser crashed ( without the cookie loss ! ).

So this is strange. Try clicking on Emulate IE7 button, placed right of the browsing tab. Or, if you can't even make it to do it, reinstall IE 8.

Just don't lose the faith in IE 8.0 :P

Well, when I click on Emulate IE7, it says it needs to restart IE8 (which doesn't work) to Emulate IE7. So that doesn't help :(

Also, I have tried multiple times to reinstall IE 8; however, it says "A previous build of Internet Explorer 8 is installed on your computer. You must remove before installing the latest version of Internet Explorer" everytime I attempt to reinstall it.

Thank you though :)

So are there any suggestions on how to fix this problem without an uninstallation of IE? Because I heard that it's really hard and not good to uninstall IE.

Thanks!

It should work like this:

Removing IE8 on Windows Vista::

1. Click the Start Button and select Control Panel.

2. Select Programs (Programs and Features if you're using the Classic View).

3. Select View installed updates (it will be under the Tasks column if you're using the Classic View).

4. Find and select Windows Internet Explorer 8 from the list of available updates.

5. Click the Uninstall button at the top of the list.

6. Restart your system.

If all goes well then it automatically reverts to IE7

Removing IE completely is both difficult and generally a bad idea. Uninstalling the newer version will revert back to the old one, however, and is a good troubleshooting step. Once IE 8 has been uninstalled, installing it again may solve your problem (or you could stick with IE 7 until the final version is released).

I thank you all for your responses.

I have fixed the problem. I right clicked on the IE icon, and I opened IE without the add-ons, so I randomly decided to disable certain add-ons for IE such as HP programs that came with this computer, and now IE works flawlessly. I don't know why they are related though.

I do appreciate the help though. Thanks! :D

LOL. Now this is certainly an useful information...I never read it before, that adds are the cause of crashes...

Glad you solved your problem!
