website and content filter?

that can stop people accessing youtube bebo ect

it needs to be able to block sites that allow you to bypass the filter

thank you

If you have a Linksys or other compatible DD-WRT router, you could load the DD-WRT firmware. It has functions to disallow certain sites/key words to specific IP addresses.

filter

Well I don't know if this is what you had in mind, but I use the web site filter that comes with Trend Micro Internet Security. It lets me block the pages I choose to based on categories and also specific web sites. you can also password protect the program so that others cant change the settings.

I use the filter to block sites like porn, violence, unsafe (virus/problematic sites), file sharing, etc...

It prevents pages that could be dangerous from opening. The program also blocks TONS of web ads from even being able to display. All I see in place of an unwanted page or advert is bright red text telling me that I can enable the web site if I choose to. And the address is shown for if I do choose to add it to the approved list.

Maybe this is what you are looking for, or something like it. I know that there are other programs out there that work in much the same way. I have seen several at Fry's Electronics (for instance) listed under "security software/parental controls". Manufacturers call their software "parental controls", but it should work in the way that you need.

If you have a business, this is definitely a smart thing to do. I would recommend that you try to find a software that runs as a hidden process. That way you can guard against people seeing the software and stopping it. Just remember to be attentive to enabling or disabling sites based on employees activity. And dont loose the password! ha ha ha

Here is a little article from PCMag.com about those types of software, if you choose to go in that direction. It was written May of 2009, so relatively recently.

excellent mate cheers will give it a try.

its for a youth club there looking at to much gang violence and there bebo's contain gang/drug references.

i blocked them through internet explorer but they were too wise and used a site to get round it

another thought

I thought of a few more things. Are the monitors oriented in a direction that someone in authority can see the screens? And maybe a rule for no crowding around a screen to block an adults view. Also maybe a short lesson and a test in order to be allowed use of the computers. That way they cant claim that: "We didn't know we were doing anything wrong!"

If you are having problems with unwanted/harmful/illegal programs being installed, then you may appreciate this. Its a program that keeps any changes to the computer from being permanent. No matter what someone does, this program basically deletes everything done on the computer at the end of the day.

Once you have the computer setup the way it should be, you turn this on. It keeps any changes, downloads, saves, etc.... from becoming permanent changes. Its called Deep Freeze, and a lot of colleges and schools are using this. I went to a junior college here in Texas, and its what they use. It works really good to keep the computer from being harmed by the actions of the user(s). It is password protected as well. It sounds like this could help you as well, especially if you are spending a lot of time and or money on computer repair

Here is their website if your interested: http://www.faronics.com/html/Deepfreeze.asp

(And no, I am not affiliated with that company in ANY way, if you were wondering.)

cheers mate that looks an excellent product.

the kids no the rules but unfortunatly the guys in charge are not doing a good job at monitoring it.

thats why there wanting me to filter the content but its just too easy to get round.
